Claudia Castro Luna ha sido becaria de la Academia de Poetas Estadounidenses, poeta laureada del estado de Washington y poeta cívica inaugural de Seattle. Es autora de “OneRiver, a Thousand Voices”; del libro de poesías “Killing Marías”, preseleccionado para el Premio del Libro 2018 del estado de Washington en poesía; y el libro de capítulos “This City”. Su libro de no ficción más reciente se puede encontrar en la antología “There’s a Revolution Outside, My Love: Letters from a Crisis”. Nacida en El Salvador, vino a los Estados Unidos en 1981. Con una vida bilingüe en inglés y español, Claudia escribe y enseña en Seattle en tierras Duwamish no cedidas, donde cultiva y cría gallinas con su esposo y sus tres hijos.
Milvia Berenice Pacheco Salvatierra es una artista afrolatina nacida en Caracas-Venezuela, donde comenzó su carrera como bailarina combinando formación en danza y teatro. Experiencias traumáticas a una edad temprana alimentaron en ella un impulso apremiante hacia el movimiento. Luego dedicó su vida a alcanzar la liberación a través del arte y el movimiento. En este viaje se ha convertido en bailarina contemporánea, coreógrafa, artista visual, madre y organizadora comunitaria. MÁS (Movimiento Afrolatino Seattle) se ha convertido en la plataforma en la que continúa sirviendo como conducto para el empoderamiento y más allá del empoderamiento para ella y para los demás.

“Pelo Malo” with Claudia Castro Luna and Milvia Berenice Pacheco Salvatierra
Join us for a screening and discussion of the Spanish-language film “Pelo Malo,” facilitated by Guest Curator Claudia Castro Luna and Milvia Berenice Pacheco Salvatierra of Movimiento Afrolatino Seattle. This event will take place in Spanish.
Claudia Castro Luna has been an Academy of American Poets Poet Laureate fellow, the Washington State Poet Laureate, and Seattle’s inaugural Civic Poet. She is the author of One River, A Thousand Voices; the Pushcart nominated Killing Marías, shortlisted for the Washington State 2018 Book Award in poetry; and the chapbook This City. Her most recent nonfiction can be found in the anthology There’s a Revolution Outside, My Love: Letters from a Crisis. Born in El Salvador, she came to the United States in 1981. Living in English and Spanish, Claudia writes and teaches in Seattle on unceded Duwamish lands where she gardens and keeps chickens with her husband and their three children.
Milvia Berenice Pacheco Salvatierra is an Afro-Latina artist born in Caracas-Venezuela, where she began her career as a dancer combining dance and theater training. Experiences with trauma at an early age fueled in her a pressing drive toward movement. She went on to devote her life to reaching liberation through art and movement. In this Journey, she has become a contemporary dancer, choreographer, performer, bodyworker, visual artist, mother and Community Organizer. MÁS (Movimiento Afrolatino Seattle) has become the platform where she continues serving as a conduit for empowerment and beyond empowerment for herself and others.
