SummaryA reading and live Q&A with the local authors of The Elderwise Way: A Different Approach to Life with Dementia, a deeply insightful book that offers ways to connect with those who have memory loss.
DescriptionJoin us on for a free conversation and reading of selections from The Elderwise Way: A Different Approach to Life with Dementia, an invaluable handbook for family, caregivers and professionals of all kinds who work with frail elders.

There’s no denying that the loss of one’s cognitive abilities is a profound one. Yet, even with such difficult loss, people can still be provided with opportunities to open their hearts and their spirits. Authors Sandy Sabersky and Ruth Neuwald Falcon will discuss attitudes and approaches that provide real ways for persons with cognitive change—and those who interact with them—to have deep and meaningful relationships. They will share readings from the book that illuminate key Elderwise Way concepts—concepts that foster compassion, dignity and personal growth for those living with memory loss and those who care for them. There will also be time to ask live questions of the authors.

This book is the distillation of more than twenty years of Sandy Sabersky’s hands-on experience with frail elders. Sabersky is the co-founder of Elderwise, a Seattle-based model adult day center, which has become a nationally recognized leader in the field of enriched care for elders. Co-author Ruth Neuwald Falcon is a writer and editor who has personal and professional experience with dementia, both in her family and as the co-producer of a documentary, An Alzheimer’s Story.

Presented in partnership with the King County Library System and the Northwest Center for Creative Aging.

Registration is through the King County Library System.  You will be emailed a link no later than two hours before the program start time.
