DescriptionThis workshop focuses on three-act structure and theme and how utilizing these ancient tools of storytelling can help writers create more meaningful and compelling tales.

Attendees will learn how to construct acts that build upon each other and propel the story seamlessly forward. They will also learn how plot and character work in concert to support a story’s theme.

Brian McDonald is an award-winning screenwriter/director/producer who has worked in film, television and comic books for more than 30 years. He has worked as a story consultant for several Hollywood film studios and recently for a new Cirque du Soleil production. His book on story construction, “Invisible Ink,” is required reading at Pixar Animation Studio as well as several film studies programs. He is the author of "Old Souls", a graphic novel published in 2019.

McDonald teaches for TheFilmSchool Seattle and the Red Badge Project, which teaches veterans suffering from PTSD how to tell their stories. He is the Chief Storyteller at Belief Agency.
NotesLibrary events and programs are free and everyone is welcome. Registration is not required for this writing class however seating will be on a first come, first seated basis. Doors to the event will open 30 minutes prior to the start of the class. We’ll try our best to make room for all interested writers, but students may be turned away if the room is filled to capacity. Due to fire code, we cannot exceed the maximum capacity for our rooms.

Please bring a pen/pencil and paper or fully-charged laptop to each class.
