DescriptionEnjoy a free concert featuring two winners of the 2019 Frances Walton Competition sponsored by the Ladies Musical Club of Seattle. Pianist Minsun Kim and clarinetist Ling Hang will display the extraordinary musical skills that helped them win the prestigious Frances Walton Competition. Collaborative pianist Asta Vaicekonis will join Ling (Holly) Hang.

Held annually in the spring, the Frances Walton Competition is a solo and ensemble competition for classical musicians ages 20-35 who live or study in one of the following 19 western states: Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Kansas, Nebraska, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming.

Now in its 30th year, the Frances Walton Competition, has boasted winners currently attending and graduates of the finest music schools in the US and around the world including Julliard School of Music, Moscow Conservatory, Eastman Conservatory, Jacobs School of Music, USC, UCLA, and San Francisco Conservatory, to name a few.

Competitors submit audio auditions in the spring. Audition finalists participate in a day-long competition which is held in Seattle in June each year. Four solo winners and one ensemble winner are selected. The winners receive cash prizes and present a free public concert in the evening on the day of the competition.

Each September, the winners participate in three statewide tours: Eastern Washington, Western Washington and the Puget Sound region. Accompanied by Ladies Musical Club members, these talented artists present free public recitals and visit schools primarily in outlying areas that have limited access to classical music.
