DescriptionMy Soul Is Filled with Joy tells the story of Treiger’s in-laws, Holocaust survivors Sam and Esther Goldberg. Sam was one of approximately 65 people to survive the Treblinka Death Camp, where more than 870,000 people were murdered. After escaping during a prisoner uprising and fleeing to the nearby forest, he met Esther, who had been hiding there for more than a year with the help of two gentile families. Treiger’s book is also the story of the author’s present-day journey of research and discovery as she travels to Poland to retrace Sam and Esther’s steps, and reconnects with relatives and the descendants of the families who helped Sam and Esther hide. Treiger will also share stories from her recent trip to Poland for the launch of the Polish translation of the book, which she presented to the Christian families who aided Sam and Esther.

My Soul is Filled with Joy brings to life the horror of the Nazis' actions and the toll that it exacted on so many Jewish families. This is also a story of hope, love and determination; of a family rediscovering the path taken by their parents to find life and freedom in a new world. Sam and Esther's story is one of love and the will to live no matter what they had to endure. It reminds us that we are still learning the lessons of the Holocaust.

My Soul Is Filled with Joy is winner of the Bronze Medal IPPY Award for World History from the Independent Publisher Book Awards, as well as a finalist in the memoir category for the PNWA’s Nancy Pearl Book Awards.
