Summary | Join us for the world premiere of a 90-minute documentary film: Curtis Comes Back to Seattle: Re-discovering Edward Sherriff Curtis & Native American Culture in the Pacific Northwest. |
---|
Description | Curtis Comes Back to Seattle follows descendants of Edward Curtis, Princess Angeline and others as they explore the Seattle roots of Curtis' North American Indian project during the 150th anniversary of Curtis' birth. The film also highlights sesquicentennial events sponsored by the Seattle Public Library and Beyond the Frame, including appearances by authors Timothy Egan and Clay Jenkinson. Beyond the Frame: To Be Native began as a coordinated effort by more than twenty organizations to recognize the work of North American Indian photographer Edward S. Curtis on his 150th birthday, and evolved into an opportunity to go "beyond the frame" with a community campaign focused on the role of Tribes and Native peoples in the Pacific Northwest. The film is directed by Vaun S. Raymond, who specializes in documenting Seattle history and teaches filmmaking at The Art Institute of Seattle. It is the final installment in a series of Curtis sesquicentennial films produced by Raymond, online at https://www.curtisinseattle.org Jeffrey P. Smith, Executive Director of the Nakani Native Program, will introduce the film. Vaun Raymond will be available for Q&A after the film screening. |
