SummaryFind out how to use words to create a silence that makes your stories richer in this workshop with author Nancy Rawles.
DescriptionHow do we write silence? The silence before the storm and the silence after? Silence allows us to look more closely and see things we might not see without it. It fills a conversation with emotion and meaning, opens a window into a character's thoughts, and gives readers and viewer the space to reflect between words. Find out how to use words to create a silence that evokes everyday life and makes any story richer.

Nancy Rawles is the author of three award-winning novels, “Love Like Gumbo,” “Crawfish Dreams,” and “My Jim.” Chosen by The Seattle Public Library for its Seattle Reads program, “My Jim” tells the story of the wife and children of Mark Twain’s famous slave character. Nancy’s book “Miz Sparks Is On Fire and This Ain’t No Drill ” uses her experience writing novels and plays to explore a year in the life of the fictional Muhammad Ali Elementary School.
