SummaryAlina Bui, Lian Halbert, and James Liang from Shih-Yi Kuan’s music studio in Mill Creek will perform delightful operatic arias and piano works from 18th and 19th centuries.
DescriptionAlina Bui is twenty-one years old and is a junior studying Biochemistry at the University of Washington currently. Alina started voice lessons when she was twelve years old. She has a strong passion for singing because the songs allow her to freely express her feelings and emotions. Alina participated at the Washington State solo/ensemble contest representing Kamiak High School two years in a row. She was also a winner of the Joan Brown Scholarship competition and the EMTA State non-keyboard competition in 2015.

Lian Halbert started studying with Shih-Yi Kuan when she was 13 and became very involved with choirs and singing groups through high school. She took a break to focus on her studies while she attended the University of Washington. After graduating with a BA in history, Lian continued her studies with Shih-Yi to pick back up her passion for singing. Lian currently works at Code.org, a non-profit focused on providing CS Education to girls and underrepresented students.
James Liang is 17 and a junior attending Jackson High School. He has been playing piano for 9 years with the past 7 under the guidance of Shih-Yi Kuan. In March, James was chosen as an alternate for the State Competition at the Edmonds Music Teachers Association Piano Competition.
