DescriptionFeatured presentations include:

(1) A Conversation about Digital Equity: Opening speakers David Keyes (City of Seattle) and Brandon Lindsey (Seattle Goodwill) will outline the concept of digital equity and Seattle’s plan to improve digital equity across the city. Volunteers are key to meeting the digital equity challenges facing our community, so the speakers will engage with the group using online tools to get input on the training needs of volunteers related to digital equity.

(2) Immigration 101(Northwest Immigrant Rights Project): This training will discuss several immigration issues, including how people can qualify for immigration status, protections for victims of crime and unaccompanied youth, detention and deportation, and potential changes to immigration policy under the Trump Administration. This training is aimed at social service providers and people working closely with the immigrant community.

(3) Supporting Immigrant Civic Engagement (Office of Immigrant and Refugee Affairs): Find out about basic, tangible things people can do to support immigrant’s civic engagement process. Learn about the challenges immigrants face to 1) become citizens and 2) get civically engaged. The City will share findings and recommendations on how to help immigrants move from legal permanent residents to engaged voters based on two programs: New Citizenship and Seattle Votes findings (barriers and solutions).

  • Understanding Adult Learners (Literacy Source)
  • Hands-On Learning - Creating Tools and Manipulatives for ESOL (Amanda Cook)
  • Passing the Citizenship Interview
  • ESOL Lesson Planning (Alysan Croydon)
  • Facilitating Talk Time English Conversation Groups
  • Basic Reading for Adult Learners
  • Working with Immigrants - a Social Service Perspective (Seattle Goodwill)
