SummaryJoin us for a free screening of a social justice film looking at the journey from incarceration to community, from behind the wall to beyond the wall.
Description“Beyond the Wall” highlights one of the most critical issues in the national debate over criminal justice reform: the flood of prisoners returning to our communities often without the guidance and support needed for a successful transition back to society.

Through personal stories of reentry, relapse, recovery and redemption, “Beyond the Wall” puts a human face on the social, economic and emotional barriers encountered by returning citizens. The film follows five formerly incarcerated men who are attempting to rebuild their lives on the outside with little support from the criminal justice system.

Following the film, at 7:45 p.m., a panel will discuss local issues, obstacles, and advocacy for people with criminal histories in our community. Panelists are: Saudia J. Abdullah, Director, Community Corrections Division King County Department of Adult and Juvenile Detention; Rhona Taylor, Columbia Legal Services & Washington State Reentry Task Force; Lynette Malo, Pioneer Human Services Employee; Keith Whiteman, Post Prison Education Project; and moderator Steve Mullin, President, Washington Roundtable. There will be an audience Q&A.

The panel discussion will be recorded for podcast.

Presented in partnership with Pioneer Human Services. “Beyond the Wall” is produced by filmmakers Bestor Cram, Jenny Phillips and Andrew Kukura.
